Sheffield Methodist District: Who Is Your Neighbour?
TfR has supported this initiative, which was established in 2009, to help create an environment of understanding and openness to diversity in South Yorkshire in order to promote unity and challenge racism and faith-based prejudice.
Who Is Your Neighbour? (WIYN) works with communities in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield by providing safe spaces for dialogue around racism and faith based prejudice, supporting and encouraging interaction between groups and communities that do not ordinarily mix and; it works with VCF groups to promote positive stories of relations between different community groups in the media.
With support from TfR, the District was able to secure £93,750 of funding from the Equalities and Human Rights Commission. TfR also supported WIYN to bring together a multifaith Management Committee and, once project staff were in place, a TfR Development Worker facilitated a workshop which enabled committee members and staff to jointly articulate a vision, purpose and strategic aims for the project.
“TfR has helped a group of people of mixed faiths to develop an idea we had into a viable project. The Adviser has held the ring whilst we found our common ground, he has supported us in areas that we were weak (commissioning!) and linked us to others who would support and engage with our work. He has been invaluable.”

“I also personally value your encouragement and knowledge of the faith and volunteer scene across Sheffield, and value, too, your calm approach and 'can-do' perspective!”
